I am continuing my clinic practice at the same level. I am thinking about cutting back on doing nursing home visits perhaps this year, but no other changes yet. I continue to enjoy working on family genealogy, working on different sides of the family as time allows. Early this past October Judy and I were able to get together with about 20 of my 2nd cousins from the Heine family side in Red Wing, Minnesota. My father’s mother was a Heine. It was great to meet with them and share family information and stories.
Judy and I traveled to Germany this past October with a group from St. Paul Concordia University for a Luther based trip. My sister Rosie and her husband Al Braun were two of the people on the trip, so that was extra fun. We landed in Prague and then traveled to various Luther related cities in eastern Germany. Dresden was especially impressive for the rebuilding that they have done, just since the reuniting of Germany after 1989. When Judy saw it in 1971, the Frauenkirche was still in rubble, destroyed in bombing by the U.S. at the end of WWII. Now it is completely rebuilt, restored with as many of the old stones as possible and new stones cut to match the original plans. We were thrilled to worship at the Castle Church in Wittenberg on Reformation Day. Lots of work has been done getting ready for the 500th year Reformation celebration to come in 2017. Some work still is in progress, but lots has been completed already. Family genealogy had an unexpected bonus when we met the U.S. Lutheran pastor who was serving a term at Wittenberg; he is a 4th cousin to Rosie and me on our dad’s side.
