This September, it was my turn to have ankle surgery on my left foot. This was to correct a long-term problem of no internal support. I had been able to put off surgery for about 8 or more years, but it was time to have the surgery done. I was out of work for 4 weeks, very thankful that Judy was able to be home to help me get around. I couldn’t put any weight on the ankle for 6 weeks. I was able to get around on a knee walker (and crutches for stairs). I went back to work half time for the 5th and 6th week, then full time after that when I could start walking with a cast boot.
The medical practice continues with our becoming more integrated into the Fairview Clinic system. At the end of September we converted from our previous electronic record system into Fairview’s EPIC system. Change is always a challenge, but we think it went more smoothly than when we first started our previous system. Since I was out on medical leave at the start of the change, I was able to do some work remotely with some of the trainers that helped get my partners working smoother more quickly. We still are learning to move around in EPIC, and should get more proficient.
